L’Amour est temps de reflets, 5 min 20 s, Yann Richebourg – Love is time of reflections
Logline / synopsis :
A poem-movie, « peau-aime-ou-vit » in French, suggesting an impossible relationship
between a young girl and a young man through the reflective capacity of the mirror, which,
implicitly as well as explicitly, conveys what is repeated in a love doomed to an impasse.
Playing with the sounds of the words starts from the title because “temps” (time) is a
homophone with “tant” (so many, so much).
This film shows and makes heard what is ordinarily silent or mute and brings what is usually
invisible to life. It is visually a very photographic form, with symbolic gestures, voice over
without dialogue, on an original poetic text.
The making of this film was all the more exciting because I didn’t have time to record my
voiceover before filming, so I did an edit afterwards, on the soundtrack, and it worked. I was
attached to the feelings and my actors understood the metaphors : the images were already
present in my head when I recorded my voice, then I directed the filming on the timing of this
counter-story, and the editing revealed what I had anticipated.
This movie attests to the plasticity of this art : a visual and symbolic watchmaking is based on
the importance of written and spoken text. One of the aims of this project is to transmit
intensity with few means.
Barbra Streisand has recently released “Love will survive” for the series “The Tattooist of
Auschwitz” ; in 2009 she sang in her album cleverly named “Love Is the Answer” : I do agree
with the fact that love is a classic, the only truth that can repair people, and moreover the best
weapon against wars (in a dream). We need emotion.
As for some influences, I was moved at a young age by “Dead Poet’s Society”, the close-ups
and meaning of “La Haine” and the literary obsessions of “Total Eclipse”. Also the aesthetic
precision of “Gattaca” and above all of “2001: A Space Odyssey”, as well as the osmosis of
words, voice, songs and staging of “Yentl”.
